How to Manage the Summer Sweats with Hearing Aids

Summer is coming! And with summer comes hotter weather and sweating! Moisture is one of the biggest contributors to hearing aids needing repair. Most hearing aid manufacturers have great protection against moisture built into their designs; however, moisture can still be a problem for hearing aids. It is recommended that if you are going to be submerged in water (swimming, showers, etc) that the hearing aids be removed. In the summer months, perspiration is also a concern! There are a variety of ways to protect your hearing aids from these summer sweats. Dehumidifiers and hearing aid dryers are two options for drawing moisture out of the hearing aids. Dehumidifiers are small containers that hold your hearing aids as well as a desiccant that pulls the moisture from the hearings while you store them overnight. Hearing aid dryers are an electronic case for storing your hearing aids with drying and sanitizing features that also helps reduce moisture buildup in your devices. For individuals who need even more protection for their hearing aids, there are sweatbands for hearing aids which is a small cover that can be placed over the hearing aids while you are wearing them to protect them from moisture.
